Our client is seeking a Production Manager for their plant based in Kempton Park. The Production Manager will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of the production process within a plastic manufacturing environment. This individual will ensure the smooth and efficient running of production operations, maintaining high quality standards while meeting customer deadlines. The role also involves leading, motivating, and developing the production team to drive continuous improvement in performance, quality, and safety.
Reports to: General Manager
Subordinates: Production personnel including supervisors and assistant supervisors
Key Responsibilities
1. Production Coordination
- Develop and implement production schedules to meet customer demands efficiently.
- Collaborate with various departments to coordinate production activities and ensure seamless operations.
- Optimize resource allocation, including personnel, equipment, and materials, to maximize productivity and minimize waste.
- Monitor production workflow, identify bottlenecks, and adjust schedules to meet deadlines.
- Continuously analyze production processes, identifying areas for cost reduction and efficiency improvements.
- Conduct root cause analyses of production issues and implement corrective actions.
- Ensure compliance with industry standards, regulations, and safety protocols.
- Maintain accurate production records and ensure all documentation is up to date.
2. Leadership & People Management
- Lead and inspire the production team, creating a culture of continuous improvement, collaboration, and accountability.
- Oversee performance management, holding regular reviews to assess progress and provide feedback.
- Act as a mentor to team members, fostering skill development through hands-on training and guidance.
- Encourage open communication, resolve conflicts, and promote teamwork to achieve common goals.
- Maintain workplace safety standards and promote a safety-first mindset throughout the team.
- Enforce company policies and the industry collective agreement, taking appropriate disciplinary actions when necessary.
3. Health & Safety
- Ensure that all health and safety protocols are followed and regularly updated to prevent accidents.
- Address and report any hazards, accidents, incidents, and near misses.
- Maintain a safe working environment, compliant with organizational health and safety regulations.
4. Product Safety & Quality Management
- Ensure compliance with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and site-specific food safety standards.
- Continuously monitor and improve product quality by adhering to company’s quality management systems.
- Report any product safety or quality concerns to upper management and proactively implement solutions.
5. Reporting & Administration
- Generate comprehensive production reports and maintain all administrative tasks related to the role.
- Ensure all reporting is timely, accurate, and aligned with company goals.
- Lead team meetings to communicate targets, progress, and updates.
6. Self-Development & Growth
- Identify personal development areas and take proactive steps to strengthen leadership and technical skills.
- Stay updated on industry trends and innovations to continuously drive improvements within the department.
Qualifications & Experience
Education:
- Grade 12 (Matric)
- Qualification in Production Management, Operations or Engineering
- Trade Tested (Advantageous)
Experience:
- Minimum of 5 years' experience as a Production Manager within the manufacturing industry, with a focus on plastic manufacturing preferred.
